Sailsense Analytics announces acquisition of Powerail – a French based company specialized in digital switching systems for the marine industry.
4 years after its creation, Sailsense Analytics confirms its game changer status thanks to a unique AI technology to revolutionize monitoring and predictive maintenance of ships
Brussels, May 11, 2022 – The recent acquisition of Powerail was announced by Sailsense Analytics, a tech start-up developing advanced monitoring solutions for different stakeholders in the boating industry, including applications to manage, schedule, and predict maintenance. The acquisition broadens Sailsense Analytics’ range of machine-learning based, connected applications that aid navigation and troubleshooting. It also reinforces its expertise in digital switching systems for marine environments with the addition of new, complementary hardware.
Powerail was founded in 2004 by two French engineers aiming to redesign and redevelop the way power supply is conceived on recreational boats.
Their key innovation consists in a digital switching board that replaces traditional electrical panels on yachts and connects all digital devices and navigation systems onboard. The resulting solution controls all the yacht’s electrical systems and enables users to monitor and manage all devices and equipment both locally and remotely. Furthermore, the intuitive, multilingual, and multifunctional Powerail interface can be easily integrated with electronic systems from all major brands. The strategic acquisition of Powerail expands the smart boat ecosystem developed by Sailsense Analytics since Powerail’s unique solution allows boat manufacturers to integrate new hardware to their boats from the design phase. Empowering Sailsense to provide its services at inception as well as retrofit stages of vessels’ lifecycles. Integrating the Powerail solution at inception will ultimately reduce the manufacturer’s production costs by unlocking the simplification of electrical wiring and circuits, the reduction of size and bulk of switchboards, the minimization of cabling, and the optimization of material costs and configuration time.
Sailsense Analytics unlocks the power of data from boat navigation
Through the Sailsense Hub, a device comparable to the brain of the boat, boatyards and fleet managers can already access an advanced and complete boat monitoring platform. The platform integrates collection of navigation and functional data from instruments and onboard devices with powerful analytics tools.
The data output can be considered a gold mine for boat designers, operators, and their maintenance managers. Until recently, this kind of data was difficult to collect, analyze and use. Thanks to Sailsense’s advanced algorithms, it is now possible to have access to state of the art diagnostic tools aimed at preventing navigational hazards, optimizing maintenance, and anticipating future repair needs.
With durability and reliability as a key design priority, all of Sailsense’s hardware is built to withstand harsh marine environments, and is constantly and automatically updated with the latest features.
Through the integration of digital and remote control to its ecosystem, Sailsense is now able to access even more key data and parameter ability of on-board systems. This provides more comfort, user friendliness, and safety for yacht’s passengers and crew.
Sailsense Analytics offers the key to significant reduction in installation and maintenance costs, better preservation of the value of the boat over time, and a reduced environmental impact (example: monitoring the charge and discharge cycles of the batteries results in a significant increase of the lifespan of battery parks)
The acquisition of Powerail by Sailsense Analytics strengthened its service ecosystem. Unique in Europe, Sailsense ecosystem now ranges from data collection, monitoring, and analysis all the way to redesigning power supply and diagnostics of all electrical equipment onboard.

About Sailsense Analytics
Sailsense Analytics was founded by two sailing enthusiasts, Nicolas De Laet and Yannick Vereerstraeten, who sailed thousands of miles across the oceans while pursuing corporate careers.
Their innovative hardware and software provides sailing boats and motor yachts with a reliable monitoring solution. Sailsense Analytics technologies use powerful artificial intelligence algorithms and machine learning to convert data gathered from boat systems into notifications and reports which are automatically communicated to sailors, fleet managers, boat owners and manufacturers.
The valuable data can interpret the activity of a boat in real time and evaluate the vessel’s condition and predict risks and hazards. The notifications and reports also facilitate decision-making for fleet managers who can plan preventive actions and maintenance that can be later fed back to boat yards and insurers.
Sailsense Analytics is a powerful toolkit optimizing boats, increasing profitability, and improving the safety and experience of the end user.
